About

I’m a birder living in Northumberland, I’ve had a passion for nature and birds ever since childhood, I suspect spending childhood weekends wandering the valleys of the Cheviots and some of Northumberland’s great beaches rubbed off on me. Later, as an independent teenager, exploring the semi-industrial coastal landscapes around South East Northumberland just reinforced my love of outdoors.

I work as part of the BirdGuides News Team, as well as occasionally reviewing books, apps and outdoor gear for Birdwatch magazine so there’s a curiosity about migration, an interest in identification and hopefully a finger on the pulse of what’s happening in the birding community. I created the concept of Hen Harrier Day and I’m not shy when it comes to sharing political views.

Most of my birding is close to home, I live a few miles from my ‘spiritual’ birding home at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea and the wider Wansbeck area provides me with a patchwork of habitats that provide endless opportunities to connect with birds and find a sense of place among them.
